Promises Made, Promises Kept

Updated: Sep 23, 2021

Together, we have already accomplished so much! As a result of our $64.8 million bond program that was passed in 2015, many of our school buildings received extensive improvements. While there is still work to be done (and will be done, thanks to the passage of our most recent bond program in 2021), we are grateful for the investment our community has already made. Here is a recap of the work we accomplished through the last bond program!

Collaboration Centers

Collaboration Centers were built at Bowen Elementary, Brookwood Elementary, Challenger Elementary, Explorer Elementary, Glenwood Elementary, Southwood Elementary, Townline Elementary, Crestwood Middle School, Pinewood Middle School, Valleywood Middle School, and our Freshman Campus!

Meadowlawn Elementary

Work at Meadowlawn included a new gymnasium and kitchen, completed in 2018. The gymnasium features clerestory windows that bring in abundant natural light; an aspect that is not often found in buildings of this era. Meadowlawn Elementary was originally built in 1954.

Administration Building & Community Space

Kentwood's Administration building received additions and renovations to provide much-needed collaboration space, while celebrating the district's diversity. The transformed building now includes two large collaboration spaces, public gathering areas, breakout rooms for students and staff, and new offices.

District-Wide Upgrades

Several additional renovation, transporation and technology projects were also funded by our last bond. Feature projects included new chromebooks, building security enhancements, new busses, technology infrastructure, GPS system for buses, parking lot and traffic improvements, athletic improvements, and extensive mechanical upgrades to provide healthy air flow.

Explorer Elementary Kitchen (Prototype)

Explorer Elementary received a new production kitchen, which serves as a "prototype" for other elementary schools. As a result of that project's success, it was determined that all elementary schools would benefit from production kitchens. Thanks to the passage of our most recent bond in 2021, that dream will become a reality in the coming years.
